Man muss einfach das Beste draus machen und ich denke das haben wir bisher immer geschafft.

Heute spielen so viele andere Dinge eine Rolle. Da ging es einfach nur um die Musik. Es ist super, Shows zu spielen, aber wenn es zur Routine wird, dann will ich das nicht machen. Ja, das mag schon sein, aber man muss es auch in Relation setzten.
Nordamerika hat eben auch viel mehr unerfolgreiche Bands, als Europa. Ist es auch! Auf was seid Ihr als Band stolz? Allem voran auf unsere Musik.
Wir sind immer unseren eigenen Weg gegangen. Man erkennt einen Raised Fist Song auch nach wenigen Akkorden. Eine Eigenschaft, die nicht so einfach zu erzielen ist in einem Genre wie Hardcore Wir haben unseren eigenen Sound. Es ist auch sehr schwer, Raised Fist mit einer anderen Band zu vergleichen.
Wir touren auch nicht so viel wie andere Bands. Andere Bands sind monatelang unterwegs. Also hast Du einen Job? Ja klar, ich will doch nicht auf dem Sofa verschimmeln, wenn ich nicht auf Tour bin! Wir machen das jetzt seit achtzehn Jahren, ich kann nicht die ganze Zeit auf Tour sein. Wir wollen das machen, aber wir wollen es auch gut machen. Wenn du konstant auf Tour. Was arbeitest Du dann so zuhause? Und was verkaufst Du so?
Ich arbeite in einer kleinen Firma, die Fisch an Restaurants verkauft. Gefrorener Fisch, frischer Fisch Ich verkaufe ihn nur! Und ich bin ziemlich frei, solange ich Fisch verkaufe. Die wundern sich nur wo ich stecke, wenn kein Fisch mehr verkauft wird! Nachdem ich aber ziemlich gut bin im Fischverkaufen, kann ich tun was ich will.
Ich arbeite mal zwei Tage nicht, dann muss ich wieder Fisch verkaufen, dann habe ich wieder tagelang frei, weil ich so viel Fisch verkauft habe. Ich bestimme selbst wie meine Woche aussieht.
Ist es auch. Ich tue was ich will, alles andere tue ich nicht. Ich kann mir jeden Tag aussuchen, auf was ich Lust habe. Da stimme ich zu. Mehr gutes Zeug, mehr schlechtes Zeug. Viele Bands bringen CDs raus, die das besser sein lassen sollten. Wir haben also viel mehr Releases. Unterm Strich haben wir aber jetzt trotzdem mehr gute Bands als zuvor. Oh nein, Punk Rock ist immer noch da! Es ist immer noch das was es war. Es gibt vielleicht weniger Bands.
Und da willst Du dann ja auch hin. In eine gute Richtung, wie ich finde. Manche Menschen sagen, Ihr werdet von Platte zu Platte aggressiver Ja, andere sagen wieder wir werden immer softer. Die Sache ist die, wir nehmen vielleicht manchmal langsamere Songs auf, aber die haben trotzdem noch diese Note von Aggression in sich.
Vielleicht sind die Vocals anders oder wir haben mehr Melodie, aber wir sind immer noch authentisch. Wir wollen diese Prise Ernsthaftigkeit und Aggression in unserer Musik behalten. Wenn sie fehlt, wird uns die Musik nicht das geben, was wir brauchen. Ich lebe genau das Leben, das ich will! Aber nicht wenn ich etwas machen muss, das ich nicht will.
Und das ist genau der Knackpunkt. Wir machen das alles wann wir es wollen. Ich denke wir sind das, was andere Bands behaupten zu sein. Sie versuchen so zu sein,. Im Moment haben wir keine! Wir haben einfach gesagt, dass das so nicht passieren wird.
Also sind wir getrennte Wege gegangen. Jetzt machen wir alles selbst und das klappt auch ganz gut, aber wir haben schon diverse Interessenten.
Das muss man aber tun, andernfalls wirst Du ein Sklave sein. Wenn ich Geld brauche, arbeite ich, wenn ich keins brauche, arbeite ich auch nicht. Das haben wir uns selbst versprochen, als wir anfingen erfolgreich zu sein und daran haben wir uns gehalten.
Die Plattenfirmen haben ein Problem. Die Bands waren aber weiterhin erfolgreich. Das konnten sie so nicht hinnehmen und wollten an allem Anteile haben. Sechs Wochen. Das war schon viel zu lange! Ja, der ist schon anders drauf als ich! Wir haben eine Co-Headline-Tour mit ihnen gemacht, das war cool. Ich habe meinen eigenen Rock Club.
Ich verdiene da nichts dran. Wie lange wollt Ihr das noch machen? Irgendwann muss Schluss sein. Hardcore-Rolling Stones. Und ein neues Album? Konkret ist noch nichts geplant, aber wir haben tonnenweise Material. Also wird es bald etwas geben, denke ich. Ja, aber nichts Konkretes. Aber das stellt meistens kein Problem dar, weil ihnen der Ruf schon vorauseilt. Nein, nicht ernsthaft.
Ich erinnere mich daran, wie Fabian und ich das Interview auf einer Show machen wollten und ich nur einen Stift und einen Zettel dabei hatte Aber letztendlich kam doch etwas dabei herum. Lest selbst Oder machst du es allein? Was war der Antrieb? Ich hoffe, im Lauf dieses Jahres mal diesen Punkt zu erreichen. Generell empfinde ich kein anderes Label als Konkurrenz. Ehrlich gesagt musste ich grade nach Massive Bloodshed Records googlen. Ich kenne zwar ein Paar der Leute in den Bands, aber rein musikalisch interessiert mich das nicht wirklich.
Bei FWH muss ich sagen, dass ich ein paar der Bands auf dem Label ganz cool finde, aber ich sehe da, bis auf. Angst zu scheitern? Stichwort: Piraterie. Bei jedem Release ein bisschen. Welche Bands hast du unter Vertrag?
Ihre Musik muss mich umhauen, und die Leute cool sein. Auf so einen Stress habe ich keinen Bock, genau so wenig wie darauf, den Ruf des Labels zu ruinieren, indem ich Schrott rausbringe, nur weil die Jungs Freunde sind. Ich glaub eher, dass das Label mich daran hindert, mir Statussymbole zuzulegen, haha. Woher kommt der Name des Labels? Man kann da x Bedeutungen reininterpretieren, aber im Endeffekt ging es uns darum, einen Namen zu haben, der nicht direkt platt in eine bestimmte Richtung interpretiert werden kann.
Was bedeutet dir Straight Edge? Straight Edge ist geil, aber im zwischenmenschlichen Bereich und bei der Auswahl der Bands unwichtig. Ohne Leute, die aktiv werden, ist Hardcore tot. Das 2. Dann haben wir uns ein bisschen gegenseitig abgecheckt und den Vertrag klargemacht. Das Ganze hat sich wie Lauffeuer verbreitet. Wie kam es zu diesem Albumtitel?
Der Zusammenhalt ist verloren gegangen. Ihr habt die Platte zusammen mit the man Waldemar Sorychta z. Sodom aufgenommen. Wie war die Arbeit mit solch einer Musiklegende? Der Kerl ist der beste Typ der mir je begegnet ist! Er hat unseren Sound einfach so unendlich nach vorne gepusht und alles aus uns rausgeholt Ich kann jedem der auf eine fette Produktion steht nur empfehlen sich mal mit ihm zusammenzusetzen!
Wie kam es dazu? Wie war die Zusammenarbeit? Der Kontakt kam zustande, indem eine gute Freundin von mir mit seinem Bruder Jahre lang zusammen war und seine Neffen zur Welt gebracht hat. Ralf ist ein cooler Typ: Voll auf dem Boden der Tatsachen und absolut nicht abgehoben. In eurer Bio habe ich gelesen, dass das neue Album in die Fresse tritt. Und diese greifen ganz gezielt die Nerven mancher Leute an. Am liebsten mit Musik, ansonsten probiere ich auch so viel in der Weltgeschichte umher zu reisen.
Klappt in letzter Zeit aber leider irgendwie nicht so wie ich will It should not be the end of your journey but the beginning. Wenn man nach neuen Bands sucht, welche auch noch Straight Edge sein sollen, kann man sich heutzutage auf nichts mehr verlassen.
Ganz anders bei Seventh Dagger. Fast jedes Mal wenn man die Website www. I am 37 now, and started calling myself straightedge at That would make 22 years of straight edge for me. Are you running your Label because you are too silly to play an instrument?
I was never really good at any instrument. Really though I was never all that interested in playing music I was always interested in putting it out, making shirts and the whole getting it out there part of things. I put on shows, did zines and made shirts long before Seventh Dagger existed. Are you able to live by Seventh Dagger?
No the money that comes in from Seventh Dagger largely goes back into Seventh Dagger. I like to see the money the label makes go to further pushing the label forward and getting out new bands and new projects. So what is your daily job then? I run a screen printing shop. I started printing shirts but exposing screens in a homemade exposure unit ie: my bedroom closet and loved the whole process. I love screen printing and I love what I do.
Think about the early years of your Label, how did it start? Tell us the SD Story. The label actually started as just a hardcore label and we actually had three releases before we switched over to being a straightedge label.
Basically the three first releases were financial disasters and I figured if I was going to lose mo-. Which Bands were the first ones you signed? My friend Chuck was a member and I was stoked on what they were doing so we went with it. How did you get the first bands? Did you already know these bands or have you spammed these guys about your plans creating a Label?
The very first band was our friends, the next band had a friend of ours in the band, after that we started looking for bands we liked and contacting them. After that we did start getting contacted by bands and some bands we were told about by bands already on the label.
We try really hard to keep a certain caliber of bands on the label which is why we have had such a low number of bands betray the values this label promotes. What about nowadays? Do you get lots of demotapes or are you still searching for bands and ask them before they try to apply at SD? Lately bands just keep popping up. Either we have heard of a band or one of our bands tells us about some band they saw or they know.
What do we have to expect in the next time? New releases? New bands? In the more distant future we have begun working on a DVD documentary about straightedge. The film crew is in Syracuse, NY this weekend conducting interviews. This project will take a long time but it is in the works. Has something happened to Seventh Dagger that was pleasingly surprising? Honestly what keeps me excited about this label is the people that support it.
We get lots of awesome messages from the people that follow and support the label, that keep me excited about the label and moving forward. We could not do what we do without this support from the straightedge community worldwide. I was excited when I found out Karl from Earth Crisis was a fan of what we were doing.
He and his band were an integral influence to what Seventh Dagger is about so finding out he liked what we were doing was amazing. Have there been some kicks in the nuts, too? There have been some monster kicks in the nuts. There have been some people that used this label over the years for what they could get from it and bailed on us when they felt like they had a better opportunity elsewhere.
You just realize you were wrong about someone and move on. If you would have a free wish, what would it be? Concerning SD of course. I wish there was an extra 5 hours added to everyday for the rest of my life so I could get everything done on time haha. I oversee most of what happens with this label along with owning a screen printing shop and being a father and husband as you can imagine I stay about a day behind schedule if not worse at all times. So I wish I had more time to see through all the ideas I have for this label.
We had contact to some U. What do you think about this combination? I am personally vegan 17 years now and straightedge. I am very passionate about both choices to this day. I personally feel like a lot of the current vegan straightedge kids here in the U. Most of these kids come from an upper middle class to straight up wealthy background of privilege and just enjoy playing revolutionary and looking down their noses at people.
You are never going to win over anyone to your way of thinking this way. Also I think the average person has politics that lean to both sides of the spectrum I am definitely conservative on some subjects and very liberal on others. My feelings were that straightedge was the spring board for a lot of good changes in my life and is what lead me down the path to veganism.
I felt that nurturing these ideals and spreading this message would hopefully bring other people the clarity of thinking to make new and positive changes in their lives as well.
After someone claims edge, is this the goal already or do you think straight edge is just the base to do something bigger? And what is it? What do you think? Honestly it is a little of both. At the end of the day I have friends who are not straightedge and I respect their decisions and value their friendship however I am proud to be straightedge and I am very passionate about the idea.
Recently we had some church people show up at our house when we were all outside enjoying a nice day as a family. They came over trying to talk to us about their religion and after they left I told my daughter that this behavior is unacceptable. I want to put the ideas out there and if. Are you yourself religious in any way? Not really. I was raised Catholic and still somewhat identify with it at least as far as the moral compass it has instilled in me.
Mostly I just do what I think is right. At the end of the day NONE of us knows what happens when we die, if there is a god or an afterlife so NONE of us should judge each others faith or lack of faith. Do you have some political dedication? Human rights, anti-war, animal rights, rights of any minority, or something?
My family is vegan so we are dedicated to animal rights and doing our part to alleviate suffering to animals in this world. My wife is vegan, my daughter has been vegan for 5 years now and my son who is three has been vegan since birth.
Is some of this reflected somewhere in your Label? We all have to pick our battles and this is the one most important to me. I am absolutely behind animal rights but there are people out there doing a great job on that front so I will leave that to them and hold down this ideology as best I can. Somebody who influenced you very much? My parents have had a tremendous influence on me. They are compassionate good people who raised me to be who I am today. Also my friend Christian Ogilvy who is not straightedge turned me on to veganism and I am eternally grateful to him for that.
What is your favorite sport and do you do some sportive things? I run. I think it works much like meditation for me.
