After reinstalling xp no internet

However, I keep a desktop running XP SP3 ready to use and recently found myself unable to browse the internet. There was a problem with certificates for websites and effectively I couldn't surf. I found that while I'd installed legacy versions of browsers they had automatically updated to the latest versions which were not compatible with XP. Even worse when I tried to uninstall Opera I found that it wouldn't uninstall.

I did manage to hack it out but it seems there is no way of preventing the browser from automatically looking for updates. I have now got Firefox installed running I hope that I can keep that version from updating.

Articles about suitable browsers aren't reliable any more. I found U R Browser as being strongly recommended for XP but when you try to install it it says that it's not compatible.

Inlovewithnight, when you do download all your drivers burn them to a Cd for future use just in case you need again. OK, I went onto the Dell Drivers site. I downloaded the "chipset" and "audio" drivers. Under "video" drivers, there are eleven and I'm not sure which one to download. I also do not see "onboard Lan" or "modem" drivers. Most likely you have the Intel-Driver G Graphics Controller assuming you don't have a dedicated video card.

Of the four entries under "Network" all you need is the Intel-Driver to get your internet running. The rest are not necessary. The modem is under "Communications". You either have a Conexant or an Intel Modem. I always remove the side cover and look with a flashlight for a label to determine which one it is.

Most of the time with the Dell's I've seen, the modems are Conexant. Again, all you will really need is the Driver, not the utilities unless you prefer to have them. Oh, the audio driver will be the SigmaTel-Driver unless you have a dedicated Creative sound card. OK, I'm on the Internet and I have sound!

Seems when I inserted the Dell driver disk nothing installed. I had to do them manually. I have formatted and re-installed with this disk before not on my comp though and havent had a problem The disk is the one that came with my computer.

I formatted and re-installed windows xp onto my computer. Usually during installation, before restart, it will check for an internet connection automatically. This time however, its like it skipped right through that step. It finishes installing xp with no internet connection check. When it does restart and finish installing xp, I go in to manually configure the connection, I have high speed, it says its already configured for highspeed but it still says there is no connection.

Ive tried resetting my modem, many times, and router xbox live. I have tried to connnect just straight through modem with no router.. Still no luck! Very fustrating. I have used the disk before on a dif comp and it checked for internet connection automatically. I am clueless as to why my comp cant recongnize the internet connection. Ive done everything I can think of and Ill try just about anything!! I want my comp back! You should first check to see if your network adapter na is setup and configured properly.

You want to go to Device Manager by right clicking on the My Computer icon from your desktop. Scroll down and click Properties. The Device Manager window will open listing all the devices for you machine. Look for na in the list. You would have a problem if 1.

You would have to find the drivers for your na to reload it to fix this problem. Here you should see your na listed and showing Disabled, Connected or Network cable unplugged. If it's disabled you can enable it by right clicking on the icon and selecting Enable. You probably won't see it as Connected because it would most likely be working. If the network cable is not plugged in then it would display Network cable unplugged.

See if na is available Then check if you don't have any yellow icon in a form of! Thats all. Wish you luck success. Thanks to both of you! I will try this in the next few days. Its def something I havent tried yet. I will get back to you There is so NA at all. And there are question marks!! This is what I get in device manager for?

Other Devices -? Ethernet Controller -?
